Van Wees impresses in Lady Rocks debut!

September 2, 2018

The 2018/19 season tipped-off off this past weekend with the Senior squad featuring in our Opening Night match.

2017/18 was certainly a year of ups and downs for the Lady Rocks with the Senior squad getting off to a quick start and going 8-0 in all competitions up until the Christmas break before the run came to an abrupt end, followed by a mounted Edinburgh Uni and City of Edinburgh challenge coming our way. From here, the season ended in a disappointing 2nd place finish with no silverware to show for the squads efforts.

It has been a long off season seeing players depart, players remain and new players join the club. A significantly strengthened Lady Rocks squad took to the court on Friday 31st August vs Polonia Phoenix to officially get the 2018/19 season underway.

Coming into the match as firm favourites, the Lady Rocks began the match with a 3-point score from Erin Gilbride, a familiar sight for the Lady Rocks faithful. From this starting point the Lady Rocks did not look back, inflicting a suffocating full-court press defence on Phoenix which led to multiple easy scores for the Lady Rocks and subsequently a lack of points for the Edinburgh based side.

A high point for the Lady Rocks was the immediate impact of new signing, Yhana Van Wees, who made her mark early by grabbing rebounds, playing solid defence and making some near impossible passes to her teammates for easy scores! It was clear early on that the signing of Van Wees is an early statement of our intent for the season ahead.

"Quite a player is Van Wees, she is going to take some stopping this season. Watch out, Scotland!" - Lady Rocks fan

The Lady Rocks took down Polonia 80-42.

The Lady Rocks will return to home action when they take on central rivals, Falkirk Fury, in an early season test on Wednesday 19th September. You can get your tickets via-

Our U16 Women also started their season on Sunday 2nd September taking on Polonia Phoenix in front of a passionate home crowd. Our young players won the match 75-34.
