New-Look Gladiators Prepare to get Season Started against Surrey

After a successful pre-season run, the Gladiators now take on the Surrey Scorchers in the BBL Cup for their first competitive game of the 2022/23 campaign.

History will be made this weekend as the Caledonia Gladiators take to the court for their first game under the new brand.

The Gladiators and Scorchers will face off in a one-off contest in the BBL Cup at the Emirates Arena this Sunday.

A successful pre-season run has built up high excitement around the team going into this game.

Gareth Murray’s side retained the Scottish Invitational Trophy in Paisley before heading down to Cheshire and Manchester to compete in challenge matches, claiming five wins from five in their pre-season games.

Meanwhile Lloyd Gardner’s Scorchers are travelling to the east end of Glasgow on the back of a pre-season campaign of mixed emotions as they defeated the Reading Rockets before losing out to the Bristol Flyers in the Vince Marriot invitational cup.

They then went on to lose their opening game of the BBL Championship at home to Cheshire.

Head Coach, Gareth Murray will be hoping to get his first season since retiring off to a good start as a new era of Scottish basketball is being paved with the rebranding of the club.

The glimpses of Murray’s aggressive and flashy style of play we got to see in the pre-season invitational tournament have shown promise to an exciting season ahead. The Gladiators will start this season with a lot of new faces as 10 of the 13-man squad are all new to the team with some new signings as well as many youth players coming through the ranks into the squad.

Players such as Jeremiah Bailey and Darian Adams showed their talent during the pre-season matches along with many of the new youngsters such as William Kemp coming into the roster and making an instant and impressive impact.

All this along with familiar faces such as Ali Fraser and Jonny Bunyan will be appearing back on court for the team.

Tip-off is at 5pm this Sunday at the Emirates Arena, you won’t want to miss it! Buy your tickets HERE.
